Although the <a href=\"https:\/\/grupooperativoacceso.eu\/en\/crops\/\">persimmon crop<\/a> does not appear to have been damaged, it is important to assess certain soil parameters, such as heavy metal content before installing vegetative cover. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22988647 \" src=\"https:\/\/grupooperativoacceso.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Muestras-metales-pesados-scaled-e1737478279941-300x273.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"385\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Figure 1: Pepe Castro (LA UNI\u00d3) collecting soil samples from the persimmon plot in Sueca.)<\/p>\n<h4>How Does the DANA Storm Affect Our Crops?<\/h4>\n<p>According to Revista AE de Divulgaci\u00f3n Agroecol\u00f3gica (article: \u201cPost-DANA Agricultural Soils and Their Necessary Recovery\u201d), which features the expertise of Dr. Carlos Garc\u00eda from CEBAS-CSIC, several potential issues are associated with the DANA weather event, including:<br \/>\n&#8211; Nutrient leaching and decreased soil fertility.<br \/>\n&#8211; Erosion of the most fertile topsoil layer, rich in organic matter, leaving behind degraded soils.<br \/>\n&#8211; Soil saturation due to excess water and subsequent soil compaction. In some soils, especially those with a clayey texture, a surface crust may form.<br \/>\n\u2013 Carrying of chemical pollutants such as pharmaceuticals, car oil, cosmetic products, heavy metals&#8230;<br \/>\n\u2013 Proliferation of fungi and bacteria due to excessive moisture. <\/p>\n<p>Therefore, conducting comprehensive soil studies in the affected agricultural areas is essential to minimise the effects of the DANA on the economy and people&#8217;s health.<br \/>We will soon be publishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/grupooperativoacceso.eu\/en\/news\/\">results of the soil analyses<\/a>, which will provide key insights into the condition of the affected soils. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At GOS ACCESO, we are committed to the integrity of our trials.
